Advanced Technology at Coleman Opticians
Coleman Opticians have recently invested in the latest technology to improve our eye examination and contact lens service.
Retinal Camera We have taken delivery of a new digital fundus camera. This can take full colour photographs of the retina at the back of the eye similar to the one shown below.

This can be viewed on a computer screen and saved for comparison with photographs taken in the future to help spot any changes, which is particularly important in monitoring glaucoma and diabetic patients. It is especially useful when it is necessary to refer patients for treatment.
Corneal Topographer This machine produces a map of the cornea – the front surface of the eye – where different colours represent different corneal curvatures. The plot below shows a patient with astigmatism where the cornea is steeper (red colours) vertically and flatter (greens and blues) horizontally. The contact lens designed should take this asymmetry into account if it is to fit properly.

This helps us to more accurately design and fit rigid contact lenses and monitor abnormal corneal conditions such as kerataconus. |
