Coleman Opticians has been established in St Augustines since 1945. De Carles the Chemist was a well known Norwich business and had been in St Augustines since the early 1900's. In the 1940's WLB Coleman joined DeCarles and in 1945 opened the Opticians in the adjoining premises. The Opticians has changed names several times during the following years but has remained in the same location. Peter Coleman joined his father in the mid 1960's and developed the Optical side of the business, closing the Chemists in the 1970's and moving the Opticians into the larger premises next door.

In the 1979 and 1981 the present proprietors Alison and Lester Fish joined. In the late 1980's the premises next door was acquired to enable the business to expand to it's present size.
