Young people must feel comfortable about wearing spectacles - or they won't use them when they should. We will ensure the frames are suitable, fit well and look good.
For our younger patients we have a range of stylish metal frames, which are free of charge (with an NHS voucher) for patients under 19 and in full-time education. For the widest possible choice, young patients can choose from the full range of frames in the practice and use their NHS voucher to reduce the cost. We also stock ‘designer’ frames for young people available for a modest extra cost. These include the ‘Barbie’ ranges for our younger patients and ranges from Bench, Playboy and Hooch for older patients.
Most frames have soft nose pads for extra comfort and sprung hinges to stand up to the rough and tumble of everyday life. We generally supply plastic lenses that are safer and lighter than glass. In addition there are special coatings available to resist scratches and eliminate reflections. For the ultimate protection we can supply polycarbonate lenses, which are available for an additional charge. Polycarbonate lenses are ideal for children as they are thinner and lighter than plastic lenses and virtually unbreakable.
Should spectacles become damaged, broken or lost young people can get NHS repair vouchers to cover or reduce the cost of repairs or replacement. In addition to our own patients, we are happy to supply spectacles to those tested elsewhere including young patients under the care of the Hospital with Hospital Eye Service vouchers. We will be happy to discuss the options available and recommend spectacles that suit your child's needs and your budget.
